Training with Mepsitahl July 24, 2008 @ 6:52 p.m.

Mepsitahl is a spirit of the sphere of Neptune and the Waters Above, whose specialty is teaching and empowering people with psychic, sensitive, and intuitive abilities. I first found her through Konstantinos' book "Summoning Spirits", and have not been able to locate her name in any of the old grimoires thus far. Kostantinos brought many spirits back into the light, so to speak, from less popular grimoires, so I wouldn't be surprised if her name shows up in an obscure one that's not well known. Then again, its entirely possible that he just met her along his travels and helped her to get her name out for recognition. She is amicable and supportive and quickly becoming very popular among magicians who are seeking to boost their psychic abilities, but she's still humble enough that her new found popularity hasn't gone to her head yet.

There are many spirits that can give visions and teach paranormal abilities, but "psychic ability" as a general specialty, and all it entails, is a more modern revelation that I believe comes from a higher sphere. The plumbing of the unconscious via Freud and Jung et. al, and the rise of spiritualism and the New Age awareness of the possibilities of the psyche, coincides in timing with the discovery of the planet Neptune and matches its observed astrology.

My work with Mepsitahl is ongoing and not strictly limited to evocation, but as I believe I've reached one of the first goals I sought her aid with, I thought I might post my operations thusfar and share how things have gone.

I first decided to seek Mepsitahl and her aid a couple weeks back. I have been in the process of completing my Abramelin operation, and its taken some very unorthodox turns that are not entirely my own doing. In the wake of initial contact with my HGA and the spirit rulers, I've been receiving an extended education in evocation and all the various classes of spirits and angels and what they have to offer. While I consider myself noetic and sensitive, and very good at lucid dreaming when I get the chance, I have never been especially psychic. I'm a magnet for synchronicity and very attuned to the flow and interaction of things, but I am not psychic in the traditional sense of clairvoyance and clairaudience and such. I'm very fortunate in my life to have the friendship and aid of many people who are, especially my friend Ben who is like the Kelley to my Dee. Nonetheless, I have been seeking greater autonomy and self-sufficiency when it comes to dealing with the spiritual world, so that I will not need to rely on others but be able to carry out extensive operations and communications on my own.

I haven't been completely unsuccessful in communicating with spirits and other beings thusfar, but the communication has been severely limited and often vague. So far its been satisfactory, as many jobs don't require a lot of chit-chat and the spirits can make enough of an impression that I get the gist of what they are trying to convey. Nonetheless, a magician needs to be able to receive and issue detailed and complete instruction if he or she wants to pursue advanced work.

With this in mind, I decided to seek Mepsitahl's aid in generally refining all my paranormal abilities, but specifically the ability to scry and converse clearly with any being. It occured to me that it would be very helpful and make a lot of sense if the first being I sought to have a detailed conversation with could be a tutor for and expert on spiritual communication. I wanted to have somebody that could be patient with me and help me practice until my abilities really get up to speed, and I didn't want to bother anybody else until I was able to converse with them clearly. There's no sense trying to carry on an extended conversation with an archangel or a daemon if you can't make out what they are saying. Since Mepsitahl's office is this kind of training, I figured that she would be safe to practice scrying and evocation with, and patient with me while I learned to clear away the static and tune in to the right channels.

My first task in seeking her aid was to prepare a magical candle to specification to invocate and petition her aid. I've been working towards more self-sufficiency in all realms of magic, and I took this oppertunity not merely to purchase or even prepare an existing candle, but to actually mold and create one myself. I purchased a glass vase, cystallizing wax and appropriate color dye from Micheal's Crafts and used existing supplies we already had around the house to craft the candle. Since Mep's sphere is beyond the realm of the seven planets, I didn't bother to use any planetary timing.

I melted the wax, mixed in the dye, and then proceeded to add psychic vision oil (mostly anise) and crushed bearberry leaves to the mixture. I prayed over the utensils and invocated the appropriate divinities for aid and consecration. Things turned out better than I could have hoped for! As the wax cooled, the color that emerged was a beautiful, deep aquamarine that corresponded PERFECTLY to Mep's primary color as Konstantinos had described. The bearberry leaves didn't take so well and ended up falling right through to the bottom and clumping, but the psychic vision oil combined beautifully and seemed to take to the mixture, holistically, like a duck to water. The crystaline wax gradually added a beautiful frosting effect as the candle cooled within the large mold of the glass (I was going for something like a very large, 9-day vigil candle). I had enough spare wax left over for a smaller candle which I prepared for general psychic empowerment and workings. I felt Mepsitahl's presence and even pleasure as I worked and it gave me joy. When I stepped out of the room for a minute and came back, I found my dad had taken out and popped open a bottle of Hypnotiq liquer, which he had set right next to the cooling candle. The Hypnotiq had the EXACT SAME coloring. I took it as a good omen and resolved to poor a shot glass for her later on.

The next day, I began to prepare a mini-alter for her within the space of my general alter. I cut out a square of construction paper and wrote out her sigil and name on the front, and on the back the corresponding and overseeing powers and god names for the sphere of the firmament, as well as a big symbol of Neptune. All were done in purple, and I edged some of the sigil with white since she was said to have white hair (I've found she changes the color as she wills). This I taped to the candle with the sigil pointing outward.

I layed down a big piece of pretty stationary with her colors to designate the area, and on top I created an octagon matrix of appropriate crystals, with my big chunk of amethyst off to the side. At the front I put my quartz crystal ball set into a pretty little votive candle holder that I've found does perfectly great double-duty as a platform for the ball. I sent my friend Ben a picture of my work thusfar, and he called to inform me that she was already there and just waiting for the formalities to conclude. I asked the fairly dumb question of how she knew and came before I had actually called her, and Ben told me that she was a psychic spirit and saw it coming (duh!). Ben ended up giving me lots of help and suggestions with decorating the alter and providing some great offerings. It turned out beautifully, and I took some good pictures which I've posted in the photos. He suggested pineapple as a general treat for spirits, and that Mep in particular would love a good cup of tea next time we got together.

I wrote out on pretty stationary my requests and desires and petitioned her for her help through the power of God and Christ. When the time was right, I lit the candle, offered up sage, pine resin and a little sandlewood as incense. I conjured the Divine fire through the candle flame to seal my petition and deliver it faithfully to her, and then immolated the paper using the flame, letting it burn out within my brazier and remembering just how god-awful burning paper smells.

That night, I sat down and attempted to scry her somewhat unsuccessfully. I'm pretty sure she came through, but there was so much "static" that it was hard to make her out.

Over the next week, the candle burned and left a lot of residue while I practiced on and off with her. I tried to cull the leftover wax down into the well of the candle, with questionable success. The flame went out a couple times and I had to relight it, but otherwise burned cleanly. After a couple days I had to go out of town and so left it unlit. I brought my ball and did a little scrying practice, but I was worried that maybe I wasn't practicing enough. Eventually when I got back, I relit the candle and let it burn down completely, and the glass cracked at the end.

I was really worried that these were bad signs, but Ben, my research, and later Mepsitahl herself reassured me that these weren't necessarily bad omens. From what I've since learned, I interpret it that the excess wax means that it will take some time to learn and master the abilities in question - more than I would hope, perhaps. The glass breaking at the very end, though, could just as well mean a breakthrough as anything else. Mep gave me the impression last night of my own personal barriers being shattered, especially the walls blocking me out from greater realities. I also saw the waters above breaking through the crystalline barriers of the walls between the spheres and gushing down to me.

On that note, yesterday night was my biggest success thusfar, and proceeded in a much more natural fashion then some of my other attempts. I set my psychic candle to burn behind me on the floor at the back of the room. Instead of burning incense on the alter, I set the brazier on the floor before it to recreate a classical technique in which the smoke rises under, into, and before you as you scry and helps alter your state. I used frankincense, which is really wonderful for focusing your intentions and perceptions, and just has a really beautiful and sacred smell to it in my opinion. I opened up the windows and curtains to the moon and invocated her power and aid to great effect (it was waning gibous the other night, but I didn't need a full moon's power). Before me was just the crystal ball, my amethyst, and a wand of smoky quartz, and I also put on my ring to assist.

I've used exhaustion from lack of sleep as a catalyst before, but lately I'm discovering a technique that seems to work a lot better for me: an adaptation of the derive, or drift. In this paradigm, you shift your perceptions so that you perceive the mundane world in an altered fashion or dimension, in which everything takes on a linkage, mythos, meaning, and significance. Along with that, I seems to have done what might be a kind of bilocation into an imaginal realm. I'm discovering that oftentimes I don't need to limit myself to trying to perceive images within the little globe of the crystal ball - they just pop into my head and I start daydreaming instead. I discovered that I can simply use the ball as a focus, or even a projector, and everything else around it and in my imagination becomes a screen for interaction.

The crystal screen had a fair amount of indirect light, and under the influence of the frankincense and the scrying, I found myself, within strong imagination, by a campfire under a beautiful night sky and next to the base of a rocky cliff, conversing with Mepsitahl and a visting angel, and also sensing the presence of my HGA. We took the time to simply enjoy beautiful surroundings, and it relaxed me tremendously. I felt a lot better and I got to see some beautiful natural sights in the skies and elsewhere. At one point, the waters above came through very strongly and blessed me with their power and presence. The quarz crystal of my tools really strongly resonated with them, so I think it was no accident that I subconsciously chose to use them. They seemed to become part water at certain points during the session - they naturally work very well with these energies.

I asked Mepsitahl to help me clarify whether the things I was seeing were my own creations and personal imagination, or whether they were actually inspirations from her (I've been very concerned about authenticity and avoiding self-deception). She escorted me to a little natural pool and swished the water about. As she did, I thought about things the water might mean and what I might do with it, but as I did so, I realized that I could now sense when the images and wishes were coming from within my own experience versus beyond it, which could be seen as both outside and/or deeper within me. It was interesting, because at certain points I could feel how my personal thoughts and imagination could simulatneously be an outside inspiration, or resonate as truth even though I derived them myself. Mepsitahl drew my attention to a Rumi saying and fractal picture I have in my room:

"As essence turns to ocean, the particles glisten. Watch how in this candleflame instant blaze all the moments you have lived."

I've always loved and appreciated those words, but now I understood them in a new way and meaning. She was saying that everything is so interconnected that the personal shows up within the impersonal, and the impersonal within the personal. On a continuum from purely individual thoughts to a purely transcendental inspiration, things are rarely cut-and-dry, one or the other. They blend into each other and echo throughout everything we encounter. Like that old computer game Treasure Quest, everything we encounter can function as a symbolic gateway into everything it is correlated and associated with. You can symbolically step through the "doorway" of your TV, for example, and enter the "world" of electronics. The Universe is not merely built on linear logic, but also on holistic analogy - like a hologram or a kaleidoscope. When you turn it one way all the elements line up in a personal way, and with another turn they can all be impersonal. The boundaries could be the most tentative and temporary things - that which seems solid has to have a lot of things going for it to keep it solid. I'm not explaining this very well, but suffice it to say that the revelations were profound.

I asked her to cleanse me with the waters, and she did so. I also managed to infuse some of those etherial waters into my chalice for added benefits later. After that, she took an octagonal crystal not unlike the one over her third eye and seemlessly placed it within my head over my own ajna. With everything I had experienced that night, I felt much more confident and able to perceive spirits clearly, and thus ready to proceed to work more with the spirits cited in Abramelin. I'm not always sure I'll be able to discern my own expectations, thoughts and imaginations from those the spirits are sending, but I think I'll get better with this over time and that now I can discern enough to learn some valuable things and communicate fairly effectively. I thanked Mepsitahl again and asked that she continue to support me. I told her I'd try not to bug her again unless I really needed her, and she smiled. I wished her goodnight and went to try to spend some time with my HGA for awhile.

The crystal Mep implanted, along with the HGA's communion, seemed to crack open my crown chakra, and I felt a really powerful kind of release on the top of my head. It was as if all this pressure of a psychological and religious nature was being vented, and it was a big relief to be able to let it out. I think the HGA is very linked to the crown, and the third eye can't display and relay psychic and inutitive impressions very well unless it has a clear connection to the crown and through it to the worlds beyond. It feels like there's been a constiction over my crown, and the session really helped to open it to all the light and inspiration beyond it - essentially, beyond myself.
