"Bad" Lyrics 2004-11-29 @ 7:47 a.m.
The lyrics of "Bad" keep ringing in my head. It is one of the most profound songs I have ever heard. Maybe my favorite even. But I think that perhaps most people may not really understand it. What is this song about? Many things, I think. Guilt. Self-hatred. Pain that may be your own doing and that you can't blame on anyone, except perhaps the whole of existence, or simply yourself. Wanting so badly to believe, like a child. To have the joy back, the simplicity, the days when you could just gaze into the blue sky with utter tranquility. Knowing that you can't and may never figure out the way of things. Knowing that surrender would save you and is really your only option. And yet, not knowing if you are capable of it. If you get yourself through it to the other side... with the possibility that there is none. Not knowing how to be completely realistic and completely idealistic at the same time. Not knowing and not able to know. Anomie. ***
