Rob, Scott, and Super Mario Brothers November 27, 2005 @ 11:37 a.m.

Jonathan and I had a couple friends scattered throughout Bixby Village. Our primary friends which we did all kinds of things together with were two boys that lived on our street named Rob and Scott. Rob was Jonathan's age and Scott was a few years younger. Their mother Nikki, a teacher, was a close friend of my mom's. We went back and forth between each other's houses all the time. Rob had blonde hair that was straight if I remember, and Scott had dark curly hair. Their dad John went out on the golf course behind their house often, and they joined him frequently. Once or twice I remember we attempted to sell lemonade out there with fairly dismal profits. The latter time, my mom scolded me for doing something that wasn't appropriate for my age.

Nikki was very big on feeding us kids healthy food, and we were always served carrots and celery when we were over there. Little bitch that I was, I actually complained about it a few times. But possibly even more annoying was the fascination I developed with a fairly new piece of technology they owned - a Nintendo Entertainment System. I quickly became addicted to playing Super Mario Brothers and Duck Hunt, though I wasn't as much a fan of the Golf game. It got so bad that even Robbie started to complain that I never wanted to do anything else. There were a lot of reasons it was so enticing to me - the sounds, the colors, the adventure and excitement, my being in total control, instant consequences for my actions, etc. That was the beginning of a very long standing addiction to video games.
