I didn't hear much about Phil's report this year other than there would be no early spring, but I'm wondering if there was anything else going on - some critical detail I missed. Like perhaps, Phil refused to get out of bed. Or he screamed in groundhog. Or he was mauled by a chipmunk. Because seriously: Spring is !@#$%^&*( major overdue this year.
With the possible exception of my freshman year of college in Oregon, I don't think I've ever missed Spring so much. I don't have anything against Winter per se - I was born in Winter, and as long as there's snow and cuddling by fires and reading I'm good. But its March 21, in California, and Seattle-style, I'm referencing the weather by "sunbreaks" rather than by "showers". I'm thinking that in ancient times, this would have been one of those years where people would be freaking out wondering if this time, the Sun was gone for good and was never coming back. The priests would have been working overtime to assure everyone that despite the fact the world seemed to be falling apart, food was running out, and there was no change in sight, the Sun would be reborn just as it was every year. Reason failing, they would probably have to resort to plenty of sacrifices and rituals to assuage people's fears.
In Marin, we thankfully haven't had to deal with any more flooding like we had on New Year's. Everyone is still on edge about the rain and water though, especially the small businesses. The business owners haven't removed the sand bags from outside their stores, and no one blames them.
Its unseasonably wet, but also unseasonably cold and windy too. Its all so bloody depressing. And all signs point towards it not changing for several more weeks. Meh.
