Prayers, Petitions, and Abundance June 24, 2008 @ 11:47 am
I think that evocation can be learned and practiced by magicians of any level, but I believe that the best entities to work with are determined by the magician's current level of development. Kind of like the methodology used in the Simon Necronomicon, but also reminiscent of the Lodge Grades. So, for example, a fairly new magician could get started working with elementary and maybe even lunar entities right away, but would need to advance through many more "gates" in his or her studies before evoking, say, jovial entities. In grade terms, for instance, one would need to be a
magister templi before evoking saturnine entities. However, a lot of times I find people come to formal magical training and structure with a lot of personal and soul experience that often qualifies them to get a "head start," and though they may be new to a particular tradition or organization, they are in reality already well travelled down The Path. Of course, its important to take out the trash, practice discipline and review everything either way, but I know that a lot of us indigo brats get an intuitive sense with much material that it is more review than new teachings for us.
With invocation and petitions for aid though, I think one has a lot more leeway. Its quite nice actually, and you might consider something along these lines for quick aid with your situation (Saint
Expedite has a good reputation for fast aid with the kind of things you mentioned). You can call upon higher entities to help initiate and guide you through your current and into your next stage of development and advancement through the spheres, and in that respect they can really help to ease your passage and take off a lot of unnecessary stress. Of course, you've got benevolent and malevolent entities in any area of experience, but part of your training is learning to discern and act accordingly.
A lot of magicians think you have to meet personally with an entity in order to get aid and results, but I know from my training in folk
Catholicism and Hoodoo that prayers and petitions with a suitable medium and/or offering is often sufficient for receiving assistance. Writing a letter, fixing a candle, and/or addressing a prayer for intercession is actually often simpler and easier than going to the trouble of meeting in person with an entity, and this makes a lot of sense if you think of things in terms of the Celestial Beaurocracy.
Angels and spirits who hold various positions and offices can receive correspondence, petitions and other requests from us and reply or respond to them accordingly just as we send letters, emails, or phone calls out to various human agents and agencies. Now granted, if you want to develop a more personal and friendly relationship with an entity, you should meet them in person. But just as I've never met Aaron and yet he can still help me out via email, I can petition entities from afar for many benefits from their "departments".
The key I think is whether your desires and requests are of a personal or impersonal nature themselves, and lets face it: most of the time, sadly, we are seeking out these entities for what they can do for us, rather than for their own sakes. Too bad, because great friendships and even romances can be had with the spirits just as
with other people. Also, consider why the entities in question should help you out, as they have various desires and motives themselves.
Would they help you out of the sheer kindness of their hearts? Do they expect to be paid in some way? Do they need authorization or authority to pull something off? This really has to do with the type of being you are getting in contact with.

I would strongly disagree with that. I have gotten a lot of great results out of both prayer and visualization. But the thing is that it is really an art form, and you have to know how to frame yourself and your prayers in order to really get the things you want. I learned a lot about this while doing my Abramelin training. The more abstract your prayer and the entity you are addressing, the more
abstract the answer will be. My suggestion is to use prayer as a natural complement to your magic -- they go together as yin and yang, as a passive request to an active means. God helps those who help themselves, and actually a lot of beings find it most pleasant to work with us when we ask them for help on their end but also set up efficient means, both magical and mundane, for their help to apply and manifest. So, to sum it up, use prayer to get the water flowing, and lay the pipes with your magic and actions so that your blessings
can flow freely and easily to where you want them to go.
There are so many different rituals, spells, entities and means for getting that prosperity that its pointless to write them out here - there are LIBRARIES about this stuff! Let's make this simple.
