Arch-Powers, Planetary Powers, and the Vault of Heaven May 24, 2008 @ 4:33 p.m.

Solomonic Magic Webgroup

Some insightful breakthroughs I've had that I wanted to share with everyone:

From what I have read, I have come to the conclusion that the archangels and olympic spirits are actually far more than merely planetary powers - they actually are superstellar powers whose
influence and authority is much more widespread.

In my research, I have found that many of the supposed "planetary" powers were originally associated not with the planets, but with the
7-fold constellations that circumscribe the North star: the place of repose associated with the throne of God and the supercelestial world. Namely, the two major constellations I'm considering here are
Ursa Major - the Big Bear that contains the Big Dipper - and the Pleiades - the 7 sisters. For example, in the Wedding Song of Wisdom,

"Her bridesmen are grouped round her, Seven in number, whom She has invited. Her bridesmaids too are Seven, who lead the Dance before Her."

The Greeks called the circumpolar stars the Arch, because their word for bear is Arktos. Seen over time and the rotation of the stars, the Arch holds up the Vault that forms the Dome of Heaven. The Big Bear patrols the outside of the "Garden", whose border is the Great Serpent Draco, and inside is the little bear who is also called the Tree. Hence, those stars set above the rest are arch-stars, and hence
the angels that rule over the hosts of Heaven are the Arch-Angels.

In respect to the Olympic Spirits, the arch is also called the Mound or Mount - Hyperborea, the Utter North, the True Divine Mountain that is the prototype of the sacred earthly mountains reaching to Heaven. It plainly states in the Isagogue of the Arbatel of Magic that these spirits of the True Olympus rule not merely over planetary influences, but the entire known universe:

"They are called Olympick spirits, which do inhabit in the firmament, and in the stars of the firmament: and the office of these spirits is to declare Destinies, and to administer fatal Charms, so far forth as God pleaseth to permit them..."

The Firmament is the black backdrop of space - the abyss, the waters above - against which the expanse of the fixed stars is firmly embedded.

"There are seven different governments of the Spirits of Olympus, by whom God hath appointed the whole frame and universe of this world to
be governed: and their visible stars are ARATRON, BETHOR, PHALEG, OCH, HAGITH, OPHIEL, PHUL, after the Olympick speech. Every one of these hath under him a mighty Militia in the firmament."

"So that there are 196 Olympick Provinces [Each govenor's domain increases by increments of 7 for a total of 196] in the whole Universe, wherein the seven Governours do exercise their power: all
which are elegantly set forth in Astronomy... Also every one of them rules 490 years. [Far longer than even the orbit of Saturn]"

Now, plainly these are not merely planetary entities - nonetheless, their powers are understood in a planetary paradigm, because in celestial magic even the 8th Heaven of the Zodiac and the Fixed
Stars, beyond the Sphere of Saturn, is understood to be populated with stars whose powers and personalities are still, nonetheless, composed of planetary qualities, albeit often admixed. In a sense,
our own solar system could be said to have a personality that is most obvious through the visible star, but whose planetary elements still contribute fully. It makes you wonder - in other solar systems, what virtues (or perhaps more likely, vices) are attributed to that yellow star on the Sagittarian arm - which would seem to be a part of the constellation Draco in the skies of other worlds?

So stars are said to be mostly mercurial, martial AND saturnine, jovial AND venereal, etc, as well as possessing unique rulerships and characteristics (poison, election of rulers, combustion) that can
only come from a unique, admixed 'personality'.

The reason for the seeming inconsistency (why would stars beyond the reach of the planets partake of their characteristics?) is because
the ARCHEtype comes not from the planets, but from the ARCHE - THE BEAR. The planetary powers are merely the same powers existing in a lower OCTAVE below the 8TH Heaven.

"Magically the Princes of the seven Governments are called simply, in that time, day and hour wherein they rule visibly or invisibly, by their Names and Offices which God hath given unto them; and by
proposing their Character which they have given or confirmed.

For example, "The governor Aratron hath in his power those things which he doth naturally, that is, after the same manner and subject as those things which in Astronomy are ascribed to the power of
Saturn."

The Point I'm driving home is this: The power of the 7 and of the Octave exists in EVERYTHING, and the planets are merely the most familiar representatives:

"In all the elements there are the seven Governours with their hosts, who do move with the equal motion of the firmament; and the inferiours do always depend upon the superiours, as it is taught in Philosophy. "

Combining an understanding of the Archetypal 7 with the other mathematical divisions of astrology and astronomy produces a very powerful new synthesis and sheds light onto many mysteries of
celestial magic:

"Make a Circle with a center A, which is B. C. D. E. At the East let there be B.C. a square. At the North, C.D. At the West, D.E. And at the South, E.D. [*E.B.] Divide the Several quadrants into seven parts, that there may be in the whole 28 parts: and let them be again divided into four parts, that there may be 112 parts of the Circle: and so many are the true secrets to be revealed. And this Circle in this manner divided, is the seal of the secrets of the world, which they draw from the onely center A, that is, from the invisible God, unto the whole creature. The Prince of the Oriental secrets is resident in the middle, and hath three Nobles on either side, every one whereof hath four under him, and the Prince himself hath four appertaining unto him. And in this manner the other Princes and
Nobles have their quadrants of secrets, with their four secrets."

"So also are words, which being pronounced, do forthwith cause creatures both visible and invisible to yield obedience, as well creatures of this our world, as of the watry, ary, subterranean, and
OLYMPICK SUPERCELESTIAL and infernal, and also the divine."

Pretty spiffy, eh?
