Re: Arch-Powers, Planetary Powers, and the Vault of Heaven May 27, 2008 @ 8:49 am

A correction to make - I'm now pretty certain that the actual 7 bridesmaids are in fact not really the Pleiades, but Ursa Minor. While they share many characteristics, I've discovered that the titles and functions attributed to Ursa Major are also attributed, albeit in a FEMALE gender, to Ursa Minor. It is interesting that both the Pleiades and the two Arktos are all said to have been nurses of Zeus, placed in the sky to honor them for their contributions.

Definitely check out this article and website when you get a chance; I found Anne Wright's site through Chris Warnock over at Renaissance Astrology, and its the best and most illuminating resource yet that I've found on the lore of the fixed stars, constellations, zodiac, and arch:
Ursa Major @ Constellation of Words

Something that took a bit more research to uncover was a title attached to the bears: the Septentriones, which means the 7 plow oxen, who drive the Plow, Cart, Wain or CHARIOT (MERKAVAH). Septentrion is thus also the Latin word for North.

Some pertinent sections of Revelation for the discussion, keeping in mind that the Throne of Repose (the Unmoved Mover) sits upon the
North Celestial Pole:

"Write, therefore, what you have seen, what is now and what will take place later. The mystery of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand and of the seven golden lampstands is this: The seven stars are the messengers (angelos) of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches." [1:19-20]

"To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: These are the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands" [2:1]

"To the angel of the church in Sardis write: These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars."[3:1]

"Before the throne, seven lamps were blazing. These are the seven spirits of God." [4:5]

"Then I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals. And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, "Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?" But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it. I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside. Then one of the elders said to me, "Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals."

Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. He had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. He came and took the scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne. And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb." [5:1-8]

"When he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. And I saw the seven angels who stand before God,
and to them were given seven trumpets." [8:1-2]
