Good and Evil April 8, 2009 @ 9:41 am

David - if you have a chance can you explain the difference between good and evil from a spiritual perspective? Reading other practitioners' blogs I come away with the impression there is far more to this than is explained in the bible. - Andy

Whenever the Kabbalists would explain the different aspects of God or the Universe, they would always stress that these were secondary to the Unity. "Else there would be two, God forbid" they would say repeatedly. So Good and Evil are always relative to a reference point, just like spacetime. This doesn't make them meaningless; it just means that you need to keep revising your models as you go through life. If you ever make it to the Greater Mysteries, you'll find that the polarity reverses somewhat there, because like the yin yang symbol, there is a bit of light within the darkness and a bit of darkness within the light.

Throughout this last age of humanity, we have associated the correct path with the direction of right, and the incorrect with the left. The word sinister literally means "left handed". Jesus said that if you were struck on your right cheek, turn the "other" one towards your troublesome friend, because then they would be forced to humiliate themselves in order to continue to humiliate you. Same with walking the extra mile - there were laws that prevented abuses of service and this action forced the guy conscripting you to risk treading on illegal territory. Everybody thinks Jesus advocated bending over, but its not the case. The truth is he wanted us to be intelligent about confronting evil and not to devolve into fighting, because this only made things worse. This is the philosophy of Aikido - the Way of Harmonious Energy.

Good and evil are the two poles of the heart - they are the two sides to human relationships. Good and evil tend to be about people's relationships with each other, although philosophers have realized that the relationships have to extend to everyone and everything. They exist as 4D polarities and so we couldn't conceive of them before we had a concept of time - ie, that our actions have consequences that last. Good and evil are meaningless to a goldfish.

There is a little evil within every good, and a little good within every evil. Evil often leads to sadism, but too much "good" can lead to masochism. Good tends to emphasize the well being and appeasement of the "other", whereas evil stresses the enthronement of the isolated self. The truth is that we must establish harmony throughout our worlds, both inner and outer, and we have to include ourselves AND others in this equation. Because we are all interrelated, what affects one of us affects all of us. This is why Nietzsche said we need to go beyond good and evil, so that we conduct our affairs within the universe conscious of the entire picture and not only one side of it. When he spoke of the Superman, he was speaking about the true nature of Christ, and the move towards a 4D world and 5D consciousness. That is how we will stop the war - else, good and evil will just fight it out for eternity because they define themselves by each other. We have to move beyond definitions, because the soul is undefinable and indescribable.
