Relaxation Technique(s) July 09, 2005 @ 11:36 a.m.

Relaxation tecniques are very popular and are taught in all kinds of seminars, groups and literature, from the most occult to the most mundane. A relaxation technique should be practiced at least once a day. It relieves stress and provides all the benefits that come with that release. It also puts one into a good mood and mindset for esoteric work, which is absolutely essential. Just like you should never drive angry, never do esoteric work in a bad mood either. At the least, your work will be sloppy and less effective - at the most, you could offend any entities you are working with! These techniques vary widely but all run along similar lines - they use guided imagery, breathing and progressive relaxation to gently and slowly ease you into the desired state. "Although it is simple, do not underestimate its importance! Walking seems simple now, but it was very difficult for you to learn - and you had to learn it before you could learn to run."

1. Sit or lay in a place where you will not be disturbed for at least 5 minutes. Don't lay down if you are planning to follow this up with something - laying down tends to promote sleepiness. Remember to unplug the telephone and let friends and family know not to disturb you (getting interrupted during esoteric work is a royal pain, even more so when you get into the more advanced stuff and are in altered states or even out of your body).

Get comfortable. If you're sitting, your back should be straight. A helpful visualization is to imagine a sort of puppet string running down from above your head through your spine. Pull the string straight up and adjust yourself until you have a good balance of posture and comfort. Regardless of whether you're sitting or standing, don't cross your legs or arms. If sitting, rest your hands on your lap. Sources vary on whether to put them palms up or down - palms up seems to be used when opening up to an influx, while palms down is used to create a kind of energetic balancing circuit for your body. Close your eyes.

2. Visualize a golden ball of beautiful, warm light surrounding your feet. If you can't "see" the ball of light when you visualize it, that's fine. Just know that its there. Know that if your powers of visualization were better you'd be able to see it (in this case, its the intention and faith that allows it to work). This ball of golden warm light always brings peace and total relaxation. Wherever it goes, tension departs. Let it go, and as it goes, feel your feet filled with the warm, golden glow of peace and total relaxation.

3."Now allow this ball of light to rise up your legs and up your torso. Then allow it to go down your arms to your fingers, and finally up your neck and into your head until you are completely covered with the warm, golden glow of total peace and relaxation, and all tension is gone. If you notice tension anywhere, send the ball of light there and the tension will vanish."

4."Stay in this state of deep relaxation for a few moments. Know that you can return to this state whenever you like simply by doing the relaxation ritual. If you are having trouble sleeping, try this ritual when you lay down at night instead of suffering or taking dangerous pills. Be at one with yourself."

5."When you are ready to come out of this state of deep relaxation, take three deep breaths and feel fresh life and energy coming into your body with each breath. Be sure to record your experience in your ritual diary."

Variations
*Visualize a beautiful, clear cascading waterfall above your head. See and feel it washing over you and through you. As it flows, it washes away all negativity you've accumulated. Feel the gunk (you can visualize it as an ugly green/brown/yellow) flow off you. After it does - and this is my special touch - please visualize it burning up in a blue or white flame and being purified into something clean or pretty, like a rainbow for instance. This will not only banish the negativity from you, but transform it into something positive.

*You can try using different colors to promote other uses, such as healing (greens, blues), energizing (green, orange or red) or other uses.
