For Empathy and Compassion January 1, 2006 @ 12:00 p.m.

Dawn is still a long way off.

I must remind myself it was for empathy and compassion.

Roller coasters and marathons.
Lusts of body and mind
Hearts bleeding and shut up in stone
Hope and sin parading down the street
Like they were brother and sister.

I forget to remind myself it was for empathy and compassion.

I flew on the wings of a phoenix
And descended to depths unheard of
I wouldn't wish it on anyone

All the time in the world, and yet its running out.
Past and present and future are all dancing together
A lot of rough and a few diamonds

Its too cold out here to be alone
Huddle with me and let me look into that mirror with you.

Who is dying?
Who is living?
Who is lying and who is telling the truth?
No wonder we want to be kids again.

Will my beloved be there when the day breaks?
Will I see his face touched gently by the rays
I cannot touch him
I'm still unclean.

But I can hold him in the place I held you
The Eden locked away in my heart
Where no sound is heard but that it carries happiness
And children dance
Without thoughts of hope and sin.

The dawn is such a long way off.
Your memory is my blanket
And I have to remind myself.

It was for empathy and compassion.
